Build Your HR Function

Build Your HR Function

PeopleCore works with you to build an HR function that reflects your organisation, your workforce and what the business needs from HR.

You may be setting up HR for the first time, or you may already have some HR arrangements in place but need a clearer, more structured approach.

Build Your HR Function could be right for you if you want to:

  • Establish an HR function for the first time
  • Put more structure around existing HR arrangements
  • Clarify what HR should be responsible for
  • Determine the HR capability and resources your organisation needs
  • Put essential HR policies, processes and practices in place
  • Establish clear priorities for your HR function
  • Make sure HR is aligned with what your organisation needs
  • Create a practical plan for building the function over time

You don’t need a large HR team to have good HR. You need the right foundations, clear priorities and an approach that works for your organisation.

We work with you to understand what your organisation needs from HR and what needs to be put in place to create the right foundations.

Depending on what you already have, we could explore:

  • Your organisation, workforce and business priorities
  • What HR needs to deliver for the organisation
  • The structure and responsibilities of the HR function
  • The HR capability and resources you need
  • Essential HR policies and processes
  • Recruitment, onboarding and core employee lifecycle processes
  • Employee relations and people management arrangements
  • Performance and development
  • People data, systems and reporting
  • Roles and responsibilities between HR and managers
  • Key HR governance and compliance requirements
  • Immediate priorities and what can be developed over time

We use this to define what your HR function needs to look like and the practical foundations required to support it.

The aim isn’t to build more HR than you need. It’s to put the right HR in place for your organisation.

You’ll come away with a clear blueprint for what your HR function needs, the foundations to support it and a practical plan for putting everything in place.

The work includes:

  • PeopleCore HR Function Blueprint – building out how your HR function should be structured and operate
  • HR roles and responsibilities – clarifying what HR is responsible for and where managers and leaders play a role
  • HR priorities – identifying what needs to be addressed now and what can be developed over time
  • HR capability and resource requirements – identifying the people, skills and capacity needed to deliver HR effectively
  • HR Foundations Pack – providing practical tools to help you start putting the function in place, including an HR responsibilities matrix, priority HR checklist and annual HR activity calendar
  • Implementation roadmap – providing a practical, prioritised plan for putting the HR function and foundations in place

The right HR for your organisation
You’ll have a clear picture of what your HR function needs to look like, what needs to be in place and where to focus first, giving you a practical foundation to build from.

We work with you to understand what your organisation needs from HR, what you already have in place and what needs to be built or strengthened.

  1. We understand your organisation
We start by understanding your organisation, workforce, business priorities and what you need HR to deliver.
  2. We review what you already have
We look at your existing HR arrangements, resources, policies, processes, systems and ways of working.
  3. We identify what you need
We determine the HR structure, capability, responsibilities and essential foundations needed to support your organisation.
  4. We design your HR Function Blueprint
PeopleCore brings this together into a clear blueprint for how your HR function should be structured and operate.
  5. We define your HR foundations
We identify the essential policies, processes, practices, systems and governance that need to be in place.
  6. We create your HR Foundations Pack and implementation roadmap
We provide practical foundation tools and prioritise what needs to happen first, setting out a clear roadmap for putting your HR function and foundations in place.

How long does it take?
Typically 3–5 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of your organisation, stakeholder availability, the amount of existing HR information and infrastructure to review and client review/feedback timescales. We’ll agree the timetable with you at the outset.

Every organisation needs something different from HR, so we’ll start with a complimentary conversation to understand where you are now and what you need to put in place.

We’ll discuss:

  • Your organisation and workforce
  • What HR arrangements you currently have in place
  • What is driving the need to set up or strengthen your HR function
  • What you need HR to deliver for the organisation
  • Any immediate HR needs and priorities
  • The resources and capability you currently have
  • What policies, processes and systems already exist
  • Your preferred timeframe

Following the conversation, where there is enough information, we’ll provide a clear proposal setting out the recommended approach, scope, timeframe and cost. Where the requirement is more complex, we’ll confirm any further scoping needed before preparing your proposal.

Your final price will depend on the scope and complexity of the work and will be confirmed before the project begins.

Build Your HR Function is designed around what your organisation actually needs. It can support organisations establishing HR for the first time as well as those that already have some HR arrangements in place but need greater structure and clarity.

The work includes your PeopleCore HR Function Blueprint, HR Foundations Pack and implementation roadmap. The exact scope and level of detail will be agreed with you before the work begins.

The project focuses on designing your HR function and identifying the foundations that need to be in place. It does not include recruiting HR staff, selecting or implementing HR technology, writing every HR policy, process or template, providing legal advice, managing employee relations cases, administering payroll or providing ongoing HR support. These can be commissioned separately where appropriate.

What happens next is up to you. You can use the blueprint and roadmap to put the HR function in place yourself or ask PeopleCore to support you with specific elements of the implementation. There is no obligation to purchase further support.
